The only problem is many people don't have the Sundance-not like ABC, CBS, etc
We should still continue to hurt Sinclair where it counts--on the bottom line--hit the advertisers, be active at license renewal time, sell our nutual funds that own the stock...

Wasn't there a doc that was scuttled at CBS after the Rather situation.............with the excuse that it was not "fair" to the president?
Although I belive that CBS made the decision to scuttle in a deal to save Rather et al, with this latest move (by Sinclair) and with so much at stake would CBS once again change their minds?
Couldn't we apply enough pressure to CBS to rethink that decision?
The aim of Sinclair's campaign of disinformation (new article today by David Shuster at msnbc about that: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6198935/#041012c ) is to hurt John Kerry's standing where they hope the character assassination attempt will hurt his campaign the most - in the swing states. This is part of the Electoral College cloak and dagger battle and also what the Swift Boat attack, previously, was all about.
With regard to "With God on our side," I have two questions:
1. Interesting as the Sundance channel's premiere seems to be (the topic certainly raises a number of important and timely questions with regard to the issue of Government and Religion), how do you think the documentary will affect the political chessboard in term of where the electoral college is concerned? I hate to sound so clinicaly down to earth about it, but, I mean, will it affect the same swing States that Sinclair is illegally trying to tilt on G. W. Bush's side? Do you see that as an effective counter-ballance?
2. Demography-wise, what segment of the population does the Sundance channel reach? Will the issue raised in the documentary play in favor of John Kerry's campaign or will it only serve to further polarize the issue, with little effect on either campaign?
I am not shooting the Premiere down, I am just asking where we are going with that and in what ways (if any) it is going to help repair or counterbalance the unbalance Sinclair is hoping to cause in the fairness of this Presidential campaign.

The swift boat goofballs bought woefully little time, yet their spot aired in 44% of all tv homes - because the news media played it for them.

Yes, indeed! The story questions some of the Bush administration's rationals for going to war in Iraq. CBS decided it was inappropriate to air so close to the election.
The irony about this, is that this is a question that really is at the heart of this Presidential campaign and which amazingly has been successfully "suppressed" from the debates.
Above and beyond the question of whether or not we did the right thing in invading Iraq ( or the red herring about whether or not the world is a better place without Saddam Hussein) looms a larger and far more important issue that, I feel, has been understated:
Does the current administration believe in our institutions or does it think that something more transcendent, such as "manifest destiny" or maybe "divine providence" or just simply the belief that it "knows better," somehow supercedes those institutions and imbues it with some sort of a "mission," perceived or imagined, that gives it the right or the duty to govern by deception?
That the current administration has managed (with the complacent complicity of the media?) to dodge that central issue and that the election might be diverted instead, thanks in part to the efforts of Sinclair, onto something else entirely is troubling, very troubling for our Democracy.

As far as equal-time options, I think it would be tactically much effective to show an anti-Bush documentary than a pro-Kerry time. (And it would then be strictly equal time for both sides.)
That siad, here's an alternative for an equal-time deal that hasn't received enough attention: Hijacking Catastrophe (http://www.hijackingcatastrophe.org). This documentary is, IMO, the best in the recent spate of anti-Bush documentaries. It gives solid, detailed evidence showing how the Bush administration has exploited the 9/11 attacks to further a neocon agenda that predates these attacks by almost a decade. This documentary was produced by the Media Education Foundation, whose mission is "to answer the challenge posed by the radical and accelerating corporate threat to democracy". Hence, countering the abuse of the public's airwaves that Sinclair intends to carry out would be perfectly in line with MEF's mission.
It's length is only 64 minutes, which is less than the 90 minutes that Sinclair is reportedly allocating for Stolen Honor. I think that 64 minutes of Hijacking Catastrophe would be significantly more powerful than 90 minutes of Stolen Honor, because its topic (the exploitation of 9/11) is far more current. At any rate, the DVD includes plenty of additional material, both on the cost of the war as well as extended interviews. It would be relatively simple to extend the documentary to fill up the 90 minute slot.
The FCC has ruled that they will not block the Documentary. They ruled it would violate free speech that Liberals are against.
the Sundance doc is anti-bush. There is a documentary exposing the real Iraq coming to another network before 11/2.
FCC said there's nothing illegal with the airing.
Get over it and stop trying to supress free speech.
It's a little late now, but Nightline is doing a story on what the Vietnamese villagers who witnessed the swift boat battle (the one which Kerry turned his boat into & killed the man firing the rocket launcher), and their version isn't what the Swift Boat veterans say.

Where is Senator John McCain?!?
How can Senator John McCain remain totally silent regarding the airing of the Anti-Kerry documentary "Stolen Honor" by Sinclair Broadcasting??
I am a huge supporter of Senator McCain - so it strikes me as odd that Sen. McCain has no comment regarding this issue. I called his office in Washington, D.C. and asked what Sen. McCain's position was regarding Sinclair broadcasting the Anti-Kerry documentary "Stolen Honor" and was told "he has not released a position yet" I asked when he will release a position and was told "I don't know". How can he remain silent???!?? This is his issue. This action by Sinclair drives a stake through the heart of campaign finance reform not to mention that Sen. McCain is the Chairman of the Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee which has jurisdiction over the FCC. This issue is a convergence of so many of Sen. McCain's stands (FCC regluations, FEC regulations, etc). Yet, he is oddly silent. Sen. McCain has preached about this very abuse of the system and now that he can actually do something about it he remains silent. I hate to say it since I am such a big fan, but it appears that he has become "gutless".
Please Sen. McCain, say something, do something, don't let this issue pass without a comment. If you remain silent, your true colors will be revealed. I know deep in my heart you are an independent thinker - say something.

We need to call our local Sinclair stations and email everyone in our address book to do so. Tell them that we will be boycotting their advertisers. Call their advertisers and tell them the same. Sinclair may not care, but hopefully their advertisers do.
Aren't there some deep-pockets people (Soros etc) who could be persuaded to buy advertising time on cable in the same markets as Sinclair? Not a few little ads but big chunks of "infomerical" time and run F911 over and over between now and the election. It can't be that expensive, given that those automatic rotisserie ovens and exercise equipment seem to be on all the time and can't make that much money.
Sad to say but my hero McCain has sold out--his reelection is so important to him that he forgets how shabbily Bush and co treated him during the past election--slurs about him, his wife, his daughter...how can he forget?
I just saw 'Going Upriver" - what a great movie -- it absolutely explains where John Kerry is coming from, and how Viet Nam changed his life, he could have come back to a cushy life, but choose to try and stop the insane war he saw. Where are the thousands of 'vets against the war', that gathered in front of the white house, that John Kerry represented with such a heart felt speech to emplore the leaders of this country to stand behind the men who fought in the viet nam war. This movie needs to be shown on all networks!
